Microsoft has finally admitted the inevitable: Call of Duty MW3 is coming to Game Pass. While the intention to bring the COD series to Game Pass is now common knowledge, we’ve been watching the metaphorical clock wondering when current titles would arrive on the service to prepare for the release of Black Ops 6 later this year. Now we know, and it’s almost here.
One of the most popular FPS games out there right now, Modern Warfare 3 is both a great and a terrible Call of Duty game, even as it nears the end of its year-long lifecycle. The multiplayer offers some really fun action and there’s always plenty of seasonal content to go around, but the Zombies mode (like many of its recent predecessors) is a disappointment for veteran fans, and the middling campaign may be the worst in CoD history. So bad, in fact, that we gave it a dismal 4/10 in our MW3 review a long time ago.
While I can’t say with any confidence that MW3 is one of the best games on Game Pass, there’s no denying the fact that it’s one of the biggest. I still can’t believe that Black Ops 6 will be available on launch day as part of Game Pass, and the addition of MW3 is just the opening act for that.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 will be added to the Game Pass library on Wednesday, July 24. We told you it was coming soon.
As we previously mentioned when covering rumors of MW3 joining the subscription service, this will be the first time a Call of Duty game has appeared on Game Pass, meaning MW3 is poised to go down in history in more ways than just as the worst campaign ever. And that’s great.
Barring any last-minute announcements, MW3 will round out a packed month of new games for Game Pass, with five games releasing on day one, including new Souls-like Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn and the charming Dungeons of Hinterberg, as well as some older favorites like Tchia and Neon White. Not bad, in my opinion.
