Murder of “Ramadan Hodja of Diyarbakir”: Punishment for attackers announcedPhoto: DHA
In his final words, detained defendant Erkan Baikt said, “I regret it. I regret it. I planned and killed Ramazan Pishkin, thinking he was another person. He got me involved in drugs when I was 17 and made me do it. He tried to sell my soul to the devil. That’s why I’m against his family. If there was someone who instigated me, I won’t hide it,” he said.
Aggravated life imprisonment was given
The court committee did not announce its decision, but sentenced Baikut to an aggravated life sentence for “intentional murder.” The court considered that the defendant had shown no remorse during the trial and felt that there was no need to reduce the sentence.
what happened?
Ramazan Pishkin, known on social media as “Ramadan Khodja of Diyarbakir”, was stabbed to death in his tea shop in Fatih.
The incident occurred at around 2 pm yesterday at a tea house owned by Ramazan Pishkin in the Cheravpasha district. Police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene after members of the public reported seeing Mr. Pishkin stabbed.
He was given first aid by medical teams at the scene and taken to hospital in an ambulance. Despite all efforts, Pishkin survived.
During a search of Erkan Baikt’s house, where he was hiding after the murder, the knife and clothing used in the murder were found.
He has nine criminal convictions.
Erkan Baikt, who was revealed to have nine previous convictions including “intentional injury” and is wanted for injuring his mother, said in a statement to the prosecutor’s office that he mistook Pishkin for an SM from Afghanistan who worked with his father and assaulted him with the intention of injuring him.
After completing formalities at the police station, Erkan Baikut was arrested by the magistrate on duty on charges of “intentional murder”.
Erkan Baikut described the murders he committed:
“I earn a living by working in my father’s shop in Fatih. I don’t know Ramazan Pishkin. I thought he was Afghan and an S&M. I met this person because he worked under my father. He often invited me to his shop. He gave me a drug known as Afghan paste because he knew I smoked. I was sexually abused by these people from 2017 to 2021. I only told Ramazan Pishkin about this abuse when I knew he was an S&M and when I threw a stone at him, he was excited by the incident and received the stone. I took out the knife I was wearing and stabbed him in the abdomen two or three times. After that, I fled the scene.
“I am not affiliated with any religious organization.”
I have no affiliation with any religious group or community. I attacked Ramazan Pishkin because I considered him an SM. I first saw Ramazan Pishkin on social media in 2021, before the incident. Then, about two months ago, I met him at his workplace, Ramazan Hoca, a tea seller, five minutes from my father’s store. I realized he was an SM. He always appeared in my dreams. I bought the knife I used in the crime from Eminönü. I did not intend to kill. I went there to injure. “I regret what happened.”
He targeted the “Ramazan Hokha”
The video was said to have targeted Pishkin by Huseyin Çevik, a former police officer who has drawn national attention for his comments on social media. After Pishkin’s murder, Çevik released the following statement:
“What targets am I going to target? I said, ‘Look, they have very nasty ideas, they have ideas that are against Islam’. If not, it’s bananas. ‘Go and beat them’ and so on… Why? I’m against beatings, so why should I be the instigator, why should I be the killer?
