Health Minister Fahrettin Koca shared an update on patients who fell ill after treatment at Burdur Provincial Hospital’s dialysis center, three of whom have died.
Breaking his silence a few days later, Minister Koca said that as of today, no patients were intubated and that “treatment of 14 patients continues. 16 patients have been discharged.”
Minister Koca spoke about the process in a post on his social media account, saying, “On May 25, 33 patients (2 of them in intensive care) received dialysis treatment at Burdur Provincial Hospital. Some of the patients have completed their dialysis sessions.” All patients receiving dialysis treatment were kept under observation in our hospital. Urgent evaluation was carried out and 14 patients, including 2 intensive care patients, were intubated and stabilized, 3 in Isparta, 23 in Antalya and 6 in Afyon. “One of them was transferred to Denizli in need of dialysis and intensive care. The health of all the transferred patients was closely monitored by me,” he said.
“As of today, no patients have been left with tubes.”
“Unfortunately, in this process, we have lost three elderly patients due to chronic illnesses, one of whom was previously in intensive care,” Coca said. “As of today, none of the patients remain intubated.” Treatment for 14 of the patients continues, with 16 of them having completed treatment. “The condition of the patients we are treating is improving. We pray for their speedy recovery,” he said.
“I will continue to pay close attention to all aspects of this sad case.”
Minister Koca continued in his duties, stating, “I will continue to pay close attention to all aspects of this sad incident at Burdur Provincial Hospital. The judicial and administrative investigation process into the incident continues.”
