Minibus controversy on the island! Local residents’ reactions, statement from Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality | Breaking News
Reaction continues to rage over the electric vehicles which have begun operating in the Islands after being taken out of service. Local residents have issued a statement about the vehicles, saying “they are not suitable for the roads, two minibuses cannot pass side by side, it is against the nature of things”, while the IMM said “public transport is a social necessity”. Islands’ new M-Class approved vehicles seat 12 people, are zero-emission, 100% electric, accessible for the disabled, quiet and have a range of 150km on a single charge. The vehicles are also in use in France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Poland, Croatia, Japan, Portugal, Romania, Spain, the USA and Canada.”

The debate continues over the electric minibuses that have begun to be used on the islands. Writer and educator Levent Kazak called IMM chairman Ekrem Imamoglu on his social media account, saying:
“For four years since the horse-drawn carriages were removed, they have not been able to obtain a license for electric vehicles. Instead, 12 huge minibuses have been introduced. These are exactly the same minibuses that operate between Sariyer – Beşiktaş and Kartal. “The Pendiks are similar to the old Magirus, but electric. These vehicles are used by people who do not know the island. Apparently, this was approved by a team that has never set foot on it. These huge minibuses cannot fit on the road for two of them. Minibuses cannot pass in parallel and do not fit on the roads mentioned above. The minibuses have to push all pedestrians and cyclists off the road. “The minibuses have the same capacity, both of those currently in operation have 13 people. There is no difference, but in terms of volume, they are three times as many.
