Heavy rains in Nevsehir
Following the warning from the General Directorate of Meteorology, thunderstorms and hail were expected in Nevşehir, adversely affecting life. After the rain, which started suddenly and continued for about an hour, the Organized Industries junction on the Nevşehir-Aksaray highway was covered with water and mud. Construction equipment and police teams rescued residents stranded on the road. One-way vehicular traffic towards Nevşehir was banned for a long time. Long lines of cars formed on the highway. A woman who was flooded on the road after leaving her workplace in the Organized Industrial Zone was rescued by a work machine. The basement of the Nevşehir Vocational Training Center was flooded and the yard was covered with mud.
As the rains subsided, the Nevsehir-Aksaray Expressway was partially reopened to heavy vehicles toward Nevsehir. The highway reopened to single-lane traffic in a controlled manner about two hours later after the floodwaters subsided.
Ali Memic, who said his car had fallen into a ditch due to flooding, told the Eiras news agency: “I was coming from Nevsehir to the Organised Industrial Zone. Suddenly it started raining. So I parked my car on its side. Now I am waiting for the highway team. “It’s been about an hour and a half and no one has come in or out,” he responded.
“We can’t drive through this water because our cars are too low,” said Fatih Erdem, a civil engineer who came to Nevsehir from Istanbul. “We’ve been here for about an hour and a half. From what I’ve heard from people around, there are constant floods in this area. The necessary infrastructure wasn’t put in place during the road construction, so there are always problems. “This is totally irresponsible on the highway,” he said.
Amasya’s streets turned into a lake
After days of weather warnings, heavy rains began in the city in the evening and intensified in a short space of time. The heavy rains turned roads into streams. Images captured by cameras in the Yuzebla district showed the strength of the current. Roads turned into lakes on Mustafa Kemal Pasha Street and Ciya Pasha Boulevard, making it difficult for drivers to move forward. Local government teams worked to drain floodwaters that filled the first floors of homes and businesses.
One resident, Ali Erdal, explained what had happened, saying: “It rained unbelievably today. Roads were flooded everywhere. “While driving I saw the water flooding, especially in the Uzebrugh area,” he said.
