SHARON, Pa. – The Mercer County Food Bank is launching “Sizzlin’ Summer,” a fundraising series “with the goal of eliminating summer hunger.”
A fundraiser featuring Tiki Trivia is planned for Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Block by Nova Destinations, 23 Chestnut Ave. The Block will donate 15 percent of proceeds, plus additional money raised from the sale of select specialty drinks, according to a news release.
The Sizzlin’ Summer Series will move to Vey’s Pub and Grille, 3176 E. State St., Hermitage, Pa., on July 25 for a Christmas in July event. On August 10, a cornhole tournament will be held at Talbot’s Taproom and Terrace, 787 Mercer Grove City Road, Mercer, Pa.
“With the announcement of Map the Meal Gap and the increasing number of residents and children in need of food assistance here in Mercer County, we hope the community will participate in the Sizzlin’ Summer Series and support our local restaurants and hungry neighbors,” said Rebecca Page, Executive Director of the Food Bank of Mercer County.
According to a study released by Feeding America titled “Map the Meal Gap,” 4,390 children living in Mercer County (20.9% of residents under the age of 18) experience food insecurity on a daily basis, meaning they don’t know where their next meal will come from.
Every dollar donated enables the Mercer County Food Bank to provide four meals to people in need.
