MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphians are celebrating Independence Day with food, drink and most importantly, togetherness.
Preparations underway for Liberty Park’s Fourth of July fireworks display
“We’re using the holidays to bring smiles to the faces of those less fortunate,” said Jamarquis Donald, who said he and his wife set up a grill and handed out food to homeless people in the area.
“So far we’ve fed about 85 people,” Takuona Donald said, “People come in for seconds and are so thrilled we don’t think they’ll get second servings. The burgers have been a big hit. My husband is in charge of the grilling and he’s done a great job with his job.”
However, we were unable to find this rare rack of ribs until we found Greg Shaw, known as the 901 Slab King.

“I have about 21 [ribs] “I have one rib here, about 30 in the other one, about 50 in total,” said Shaw, who is cooking ribs for family and friends to celebrate the holiday.
But if you can’t stand the heat in the kitchen, Hopper Seely, president of Grind City Brewing Company, encourages you to join in on the fun, free outdoor gatherings.
“We’ll have food trucks all day today. We’ll have moon bounces for the kids. We’ll have sparklers, beer and non-alcoholic drinks for the kids,” Seely said.

There will be live music from 6pm and fireworks from 9pm.
“It’s a celebration of ideas, right? We’re all here to better ourselves,” Seeley said. “We all want to build our neighborhoods, our communities. This was a realization on this day, but if there were fireworks every day, we probably would.”
