Mircea Lucescu, a former national team manager, commented ahead of the Netherlands vs. Turkiye match.
“The two most promising countries for the future are Switzerland and Turkey” | Lucescu said the two best emerging countries for Euro 2024 are Turkey and Switzerland.
Lucescu said there were no surprises from the Balkan nation in the organisation, noting that Turkey was the only team representing Eastern Europe at Euro 2024.
“The countries that will be in the tournament are Turkey and Switzerland” | With all the big teams except Italy still in the running for EURO 2024, the Romanian coach said: “It’s not a tournament where we’ll experience big surprises, except, of course, Turkey and Switzerland. I think those two countries will make a name for themselves in the tournament.”
Lucescu said Turkish football is on the rise again, saying: “Turkish footballers fight and play very smartly on the field. The national team is very good not only in defence and attack but also at a technical level.”
“My mark is still on the Turkish national team” | Lucescu said he has started a rejuvenation drive for the national team and that the results are now being seen, saying:
“My mark is still there in the Turkish national team. Five or six players I scouted are now playing for the national team. I’m very proud of this. Merih Demiral is one of them. I was very happy when I saw his goal against Austria.”
