James will turn 40 midway through next season but remains among the top 15 players in the league.
The Lakers finished in eighth place in the Western Conference last season with a record of 46 wins and 36 losses.
After defeating the New Orleans Pelicans in the play-in tournament, they lost to Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets in the first round (out of 5 games).

James played six seasons with the Lakers and the team appeared in the NBA playoffs four times.
They won the 2020 NBA Championship and advanced to the Western Conference Finals in 2023.
James will have to make a decision on his $51.4 million player option this summer.
If he refuses, he will become a free agent.
