JACKSON, Tenn. — I spoke with a representative from the Tennessee Nutrition and Consumer Education Program who told me on May 22nd that details were being finalized regarding grant funding to help those in need.
“Different people have different preferences, we just want to make sure food waste doesn’t happen. We just got together today to talk about different aspects of the grants that we’ve already applied for and we’re waiting to see if the grant money will come through, hopefully, so we wanted to put together some things that you can apply for when you need it,” said Amber Morgan, an agent with TNCEP.
Morgan said the Hub City Health Coalition will know by June 4 whether the two new food pantries will be approved.
We also have a “Givebackjack” app currently under development.
“We want to make sure we have the right amount in our budget for two mini-food pantries so that we can complete the development of the app. This will help all Madison County residents know whether they have food or not. “Whether you’re short on food or want to eat, you’ll be able to find the closest food pantry near you,” Morgan said.
Morgan also talked about partnering with RIFA Co-op to offer classes that discuss food portion sizes.
We also provide information on how to use coupons to save money.
“We all just want our community back. Everybody’s isolated and in their own little world. We want Madison County to be a community again. Caring for others,” Morgan said.
