CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Cheyenne-Laramie County Health Department inspects restaurants, bars, convenience stores, delis, grocery stores, bed and breakfasts, etc. All establishments undergo unannounced inspections at least twice a year.
According to the department, there are two types of violations: “serious red violations” and “serious black violations.” Serious violations are those that are most likely to cause foodborne illness and make people sick, while non-serious violations could be violations related to the cleanliness or upkeep of the facility.
According to the health department, “we strive to have facilities correct violations on the spot. Serious violations are corrected immediately or within 24 hours.” Non-serious violations also must be corrected, but follow-up may not occur until the next scheduled inspection, he said.
If a reinspection is required, the problem may have been more serious or the facility may need more time to correct the problem. You have 10 days to correct the problem.
While the department looks for deficiencies, the organization’s primary goal is to educate companies and help them understand unsafe practices and how to correct them — meaning the absence of violations doesn’t necessarily mean a company is unsafe.
Any significant violations or noteworthy remarks will be included in the summary memo below, but full reports for each restaurant can be found on the Health Department’s website, where all the latest information is publicly available.
