LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) – The WAFER Food Pantry in La Crosse is urgently seeking donations to help serve the local community.
WAFER plays a vital role in providing meals to families in La Crosse County.
The new location has made the food pantry more accessible and increased demand for its services, and Executive Director Erin Waldhart said families are going through more food now that schools are no longer providing meals to students.
“So we have more families serving us. More mouths to feed in the summer and more meals to serve when school is out,” Waldhart said.
WAFER Food Pantry goes through 4,600 cans of soup and vegetables, 1,500 jars of peanut butter, and 1,800 boxes of macaroni and cheese per month. With current supplies at worrying levels, it would cost about $7,600 just to purchase a month’s supply of these items.
“Our supply is not keeping up with the demand and unless donations increase we will need to purchase large amounts of food over the next three weeks,” Waldhart said.
Other items WAFER is looking for include pasta, canned meats and breakfast foods like oatmeal and pancake mix.
Monetary donations can be sent directly to WAFER at 1603 George St La Crosse, WI 54603 or through their website. Food donations can be dropped off during business hours.
