The palace meeting between former Çi party leader Meral Akşener and AKP President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the lack of explanation for the contents of the meeting that followed continue to raise various suspicions on the political agenda.
Kolay Aydin, a deputy from Turkey’s government Iyi Party, had earlier issued a lengthy statement calling on Akşena to explain the contents of the meeting.
“It is also thought-provoking that the meeting took place at a time when constitutional discussions are underway,” Aydin said.
Koray Aydin’s calls went unanswered. Meral Akşener recently issued a statement but did not mention the content of her meeting with Erdogan.
Koray Aydin’s second call to Akşener
Finally, a new statement was released by Kolay Aydin, who in his two-page statement this time mentioned not only Akşener but also the Ziya Party officials.
“It is important for the current party executive to invite Meral Akşener, Founding Chairperson of the İYi Party and member of the Founding Board, to make a statement as soon as possible about the developments that are bringing İYi Party members to their knees,” Aydın said. “It will be a week.”
Kolay Aydin’s statement is as follows:
It has been eight days since Meral Akşena, “former chairman of the İYī Party,” visited our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the palace, and one week since Akşena and Erdoğan visited each other. President Erdoğan asked for an explanation of the subject and content of the meeting.
After İYİ Party officials failed to respond in time regarding this meeting, approximately 26 hours after the meeting, I issued a statement in good faith and sincerity that we would uphold the corporate identity of İYİ Party as a founding member, director and elected member of Parliament of İYİ Party.
With this statement, I wanted to convey the feelings of the millions of people who have given their hearts to the Yi Party, and I am happy to say that I have received countless positive feedback, comments and messages of support.
If someone like Meral Akşener, who still belongs to the Zii Party, had visited the palace with the same procedures and at the same time, I would have made the same statement. Therefore, my criticism, reaction and warning regarding this meeting are not personal, but principled.
What was discussed at the meeting: The Ziya Party family, which has unconditionally supported Mr. Akşener for years, is unknown to the current management of our party, the Turkish people and the public.
This situation cannot be accepted as normal and ignored, because it is precisely this set of “unanswered questions” that has put the Jiyi Party in this difficult position today.
Akşener’s statement denied the allegations that the meeting held at the palace was about the files submitted to the judicial authorities or the news of opening an office in Ankara, not mentioning a single word about the subject or content of the meeting. It is impossible to satisfy the members of the Jüj Party, our country and our people.
On the other hand, irresponsible and scandalous statements made by Akşener’s entourage about the meeting have literally added salt and pepper to a bleeding wound.
With frivolous and contradictory statements such as “If he is offered the vice presidency, he will be evaluated”, “If Akşener is expelled, the İYİ Party will be gone”, “Meral has no obligation to inform the İYİ Party”, and “The İYİ Party is afraid of Meral Akşener.”
Using all my political experience, I state unequivocally: this opinion and the subsequent style and writing displayed by Mr. Akshener’s circle caused great damage to the ZII Party.
Sadly, the damage done to the Yi Party, for which millions of people worked, supported and voted, is not limited to this conference.
The party has been seriously hurt by the wrong decisions made during the process, starting from the district and prefectural conventions before the last regular convention, to the trend surveys that witnessed various irregularities and illegal activities before the general elections.
And a highly flawed strategy was implemented in the general election.
The attitude and policies shown in the last local elections have further accelerated the loss of trust in the Ziya Party. Our parliamentarians, general administrative commissioners, founders, provincial and district chairpersons who spoke out against the “free and independent” decisions made in the local elections and in favor of cooperation, even if it was limited to Ankara and Istanbul, were alienated, and their legitimate opposition was ignored.
After all, the rhetoric, actions and policies that brought water to the government’s mill in the last local elections. The language and tone used in the election campaign, based on insults against the mayors of Ankara and Istanbul, are completely rejected by our country and caused the Ziya Party to suffer its biggest defeat in its electoral history.
Since its founding, the JI Party has been regarded by voters as the most sincere and reliable opposition party, but unfortunately, it has quickly lost that distinction due to these flawed policies. Snow has literally fallen on the mountains on which our country depends.
At a time when the Zii Party is searching for solutions to reorganize and revive, the visit of its founding chairman, Akşena, to the palace without the party’s knowledge has caused serious anxiety, distress and rifts.
The fog has yet to clear regarding the reason, subject matter and content of the meeting.
The fact that the steps that should have been taken to protect the party’s organizational identity were not taken properly and in due time has definitely and deeply disappointed not only me but the entire Jiyi Party family.
Our friends who made sacrifice after sacrifice to establish the İYİ Party are waiting for a decisive solution.
In an environment where the expression of an opinion by an MP in a meeting closed to the press is considered grounds for expulsion, the fact that no statement was made about the contents of the closed meeting held at the Palace offends any honest conscience.
It is important that the current party leadership invites Meral Akşener, Founding Chairperson of the İYī Party and member of the Founding Board, to issue a statement as soon as possible about the events that have kept İYī Party members in prostration for a week.
As we said in our previous statement, “the picture of reconciliation and softening with the government will never be acceptable in the eyes and hearts of Jiyi Party members, who are a noble movement of rebellion against the AK Party government to defend the rights and law of the oppressed, those who are deprived of their rights and those who are sentenced to hunger and misery.”
I present these warnings to the members of the Zii Party, to the nation and to the pure conscience of our dear Turkish people, as the common opinion of hundreds of my compatriots whom I have consulted for many days.
Greetings and best regards.
