Weather outlook
According to the latest forecast of the General Meteorological Directorate, the eastern part of the country will be partly cloudy and sometimes very cloudy, around Osmaniye, Kars, Hakkari, Şanlıurfa, Diyarbakir, Batman, southern parts of Ağrı and Idır, eastern Van and the Hatay coast will be locally cloudy with occasional showers and thunderstorms, while other places will be partly cloudy or sunny.
Temperature: No major changes are expected in temperatures. Temperatures are expected to remain 5 to 10 degrees above normal for the time being.
Winds: Light to moderate at times, generally from the north to south, along the Mediterranean coast on Monday afternoon.
Four roofs blown off in Diyarbakir storm
The storm blew off four roofs in the Bismil district of Diyarbakir city.
The roof of the house was blown off
The roof of a building in the centre of Bismil district was blown off by the storm and fell onto parked cars. Some debris was also dumped on the road. Pieces of the roof flew onto the road, disrupting traffic, and the storm also damaged a solar power system on the building’s upper floors. Three roofs were blown off in the rural Eucalyptus Salat neighbourhood of the same district. Neighbouring mayor Mehmet Rekai Yaka said there were no deaths or injuries in the incident.
Storm in Sanliurfa topples trees, turns road into lake
A surprising storm and rain fell in Sanliurfa from the evening, with temperatures exceeding 50 degrees. Trees fell due to sudden strong winds. Items in front of workplaces and stores were blown away by the wind, and dust clouds covered the city. Heavy rain that began after the storm turned the roads into lakes in five minutes. Some workplaces were flooded, and water gushed out of manholes. Citizens fought desperately to catch materials blown away by the wind.
Picnickers escape the heat but get caught in the rain
Residents of Batman’s Saison neighbourhood were caught in a sudden downpour as they headed to a recreation area to cool off from the heat.
Citizens who had gathered at a recreational spot in the Sason district to spend the last day of the holidays with their families on a picnic were hit by a sudden rain shower. Some citizens cut their picnic short and drove home, while others took shelter in the shade of trees under blankets or covers.
