The Graduate School of International Development Studies is seeking an Associate Professor or Professor of International History and Political Science for the Pierre Du Bois Professorship “Europe and the World”. Candidates should hold a PhD in History, have a track record of excellent teaching and research, and be able to make a significant, long-term contribution to the field of “Europe and the World”.
The selected candidate will be appointed Pierre du Bois Professor. The candidate must be open to comparative analysis and interested in innovation from a methodological point of view. We will give preference to candidates with expertise related to Europe’s historical relations and exchanges with the world. We are particularly interested in candidates working in the following areas:
1) History of European Imperialism, Empires, and Colonialism
2) the transnational historical dimensions connecting Europe with other parts of the world (including but not limited to the circulation of ideas and the influence of migration flows);
3) The impact and interactions of European developments (broadly defined) on global security
The successful candidate will teach graduate courses and supervise master’s and doctoral theses in the Department of International History and Political Science. He or she will also be expected to teach classes and supervise master’s theses in the graduate interdisciplinary program. He or she will be able to collaborate with colleagues in other fields researched and taught at the Institute (International Economics, International Relations and Politics, Anthropology and Sociology, International Law).
The language of instruction will be English or French. Prior knowledge of French is not required, but successful candidates will be expected to acquire at least a passive knowledge of French within two years of employment.
