Italy defeated Albania 2-1 in the first match of Group B at the 2024 European Championship (EURO 2024).
The minutes of the match are as follows:
Albania took the lead 23 seconds into the game. After a Dimarco throw-in, the ball was picked up by the Italian defence towards their own penalty area and Bajrami fired a powerful shot from the right diagonal into the goal. 0-1.
Italy equalized in the 11th minute. After a corner kick following a pass from the left wing, Pellegrini’s cross hit the back post and Bastoni headed the ball into the goal to make it 1-1.
Italy took the lead in the 16th minute, when Barella found the ball inside the penalty arc after it had bounced off an Albanian defender in front of him and fired a powerful shot into the net from a round corner to make it 2-1.
Italy looked to make it three in the 33rd minute, when Frattessi received the ball in the penalty area from a through pass from Scamacca and smashed the ball into the goal, hitting the side post before the defense cleared the danger.
Albania came close to drawing level in the 90th minute when Manaj moved onto a long ball that was played in behind the defence and softened it with his chest. He fired a shot from the right side of the penalty area, but it was deflected off Donnarumma and cleared to the other side, allowing the defence to avert a crisis.
Italy won the match 2-1.
