What the hell happened?
A British woman who flew to Turkey for cheap tummy tuck surgery says she is left in severe pain after her surgeon botched the cheap procedure.
Emma Whitney, 46, flew to Istanbul on March 7 for surgery at a clinic that cannot be named for legal reasons.
The mother of six wanted a sexy ‘mom makeover’ and also underwent a ‘fleur de lys’ abdominoplasty to get a breast lift and remove belly fat. .
But more than four months after the surgery, Whitney said the swelling had not gone down and she was still battling “horrific” pain.
“I had the surgery in the first place because I was depressed and I wanted to feel better about myself,” she told Southwest News Service.
“But my symptoms have gotten so bad that I have to double the dosage of my antidepressants. I’ve paid so much money and there’s nothing I can do about it.”
Emma Whitney, 46, flew to Istanbul on March 7 to undergo a tummy tuck, breast lift and ‘fleur de lys’. More than four months after her surgery, her swelling hasn’t gone down, leaving her in a “bumpy state,” said Witney.
Whitney, from the UK, said she was left with loose skin all over her body after undergoing gastric bypass surgery in December 2020. She then began considering options to remove her excess skin.
With costs totaling nearly $34,000, the cash-strapped mother could not afford the procedure in her home country.
Instead, she found a deal at a clinic in Turkey where the surgery was advertised for $9,000.
Whitney said she made a reservation in March of this year because there were no negative reviews for the business on Google.
Whitney says it’s not just her appearance that depresses her. She is still battling severe pain after her surgery.
But even before she was stabbed, she had begun to be wary of the business after refusing to postpone the proceedings after her mother’s death.
“I was shocked when I was told the date could not be changed,” Whitney explained. “I felt so guilty about being away from my kids for a week, but I knew I couldn’t do it again.”
After the surgery was completed, Whitney’s suffering only worsened.
“Her stomach is V-shaped and bumpy,” Whitney said. “One of my breasts is bigger than the other, and my right arm is deflated where it’s tightly sewn. It feels very tight and weird.”
She said she woke up in pain and was not given proper pain medication. Her mother was also left with a lump or bump on her abdomen.
“At first I thought it would be okay once the swelling went down,” she says. “I was told that the bump is liquid and needs to be drained with lymphatic massage.”
Since then, Whitney has spent more than $600 on massages, but the lump hasn’t gone away.
“My stomach is V-shaped and bumpy,” she added sadly. “One of my breasts is bigger than the other, and my right arm is deflated where it’s tightly sewn. It feels very tight and weird.”
The mother of six is watching the aftermath of a botched surgery with her family.
Ms Whitney is now warning other women not to fly to Turkey to get the surgery at a discounted price, saying they would be better off saving money to have the procedure done in their home country.
“I never expected to be left like this after paying so much money,” she declared. “There’s nothing left to fix.”
The clinic did not respond to requests for comment.
