BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Bowling Green-based Houchens Food Group released a statement following the shooting that occurred at a grocery store it owns in Fordyce, Arkansas.
Three people were killed and 10 injured in a shooting outside a grocery store in Fordyce, Arkansas, on Friday, police said. At an afternoon press conference, police said two police officers were among the injured, but that their injuries were not life-threatening.
Arkansas State Police responded to the Mad Butcher grocery store at 11:38 a.m. local time on Friday. Upon arrival, officers exchanged gunfire with a lone suspect, according to authorities.
The shooter was wounded and taken into custody, but the suspect’s injuries are not life-threatening, police said.
Arkansas Department of Public Safety Commissioner Mike Hager said at a press conference that the injuries of the eight injured civilians ranged from non-life threatening to extremely serious.
Houchen’s Food Group officials said in a statement, “We are deeply saddened by the shooting that occurred today at the Fordyce Mad Butcher grocery store, owned and operated by Houchen’s Food Group. We appreciate the swift response of local authorities, who apprehended the suspect and secured the scene. Company and store officials are cooperating fully with law enforcement during the investigation. The store will be closed until the investigation is complete.
