The Albemarle Museum will host its monthly “History for Lunch” at noon on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 in the Geyser Auditorium. David Bennett, curator of maritime history at the North Carolina Maritime Museum, will explore the development of the shad and herring fisheries in Albemarle Sound.
The bay and its tributaries were once home to some of North Carolina’s largest commercial fisheries, and Bennett makes special mention of the technological development of these fisheries from their early colonial days through their decline in the 20th century.
The Museum will host in-person and Zoom “History for Lunch” programs. To join the lectures virtually, register in advance to receive a link at bit.ly/3VCjVrQ. No registration is required to attend the lectures in person.
