Yavuz Güngöl, suspected of murdering Sedef Güler, whose body was found wrapped in a carpet with weights attached to his feet in the sea at Büyükçekmece in Istanbul, was arrested in Erçili, a village on the Greek border in Edirne. Güngöl confessed that he realized Güler was not breathing after consuming alcohol and drugs, so he wrapped him in the carpet and threw himself into the sea.
A team from the Edirne Gendarmerie Intelligence Directorate determined that Yavuz Güngöl, a suspect in the murder of Sedef Güler, whose body was found wrapped in a carpet in the sea in Büyükçekmece, Istanbul, was in Edirne. Güngöl was captured and detained during an operation carried out in the middle of the night in the village of Erçili inside the center.
Following questioning, Güngel was sentenced to eight years and four months in prison for “trafficking or supplying narcotic drugs or stimulants,” “escaping a prisoner or detainee,” “purchasing, transporting or possessing an unlicensed firearm or ammunition,” and “human trafficking.” He was also determined to be wanted for “manufacturing or supplying narcotic drugs or stimulants” and “intentional homicide.”
He was sent to court
Yavuz Güngöl said in a statement that after consuming alcohol and drugs, she noticed that Sedef Güler was not breathing and so she wrapped a carpet around herself and threw herself into the sea. Güngöl was taken to court after being processed by the gendarmerie.
Carpet washing receipts were given to the suspect.
Detectives from the Security Bureau of the Büyükçekmece District Police Station investigated all details of the incident leading to the arrest of two suspects. The laundry paper found on the carpet in which the girl’s lifeless body was wrapped was first delivered to a carpet washer and then to a person named Firat B.
Traces of blood were found in the house.
Firat B. (53) and Onur Ö. Named suspects were also detained. The video showed that the driver of the car was Yavuz G., who received an eight-year suspended sentence for drug convictions, and next to him was Firat B. During the search of the house where the incident is believed to have occurred, a scarf, a scarf and a rope believed to have been used to strangle the girl were sent to the crime laboratory for examination.
During questioning at the police station, Firat B said, “I got a call from YG. When I got home, the girl was dead. I bought a chain and a lock at a hardware store and wrapped the body in a carpet. I tied a dumbbell with the chain and carried it to the car. Then we threw it off a bridge. ‘I didn’t kill the girl,'” he said. A police inspection of the rental house also found bloodstains.
