WESTPORT — A food drive to support two local food assistance programs will be held Saturday at the Stop & Shop supermarket, 1790 Post Road East.
Food donations will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, sponsored by the police department, the Westport Sunrise Rotary Club and Stop & Shop.
Food collected that day will be donated to Homes with Hope and the town’s Human Services Department, in partnership with the Westport Women’s Club.
Police officers and volunteers will collect donations that will then be distributed to local programs that help those in need of food assistance.
Organizers are seeking donations of nonperishable foods (glass jars will not be accepted) such as applesauce, breakfast bars, boxes of macaroni and cheese, canned vegetables and canned fruit.
Canned meat and fish, canned soups, stews and chilis, cup soups and ramen, cereals, granola and protein bars, burgers and tuna helpers, ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, oatmeal, pancake mixes and syrups, pasta and tomato sauce.
Additionally, they also have gluten-free foods such as peanut butter, jelly, rice, a variety of snacks, pastas, soups and cereals.
Hygiene products such as toothpaste, shampoo, and deodorant are also accepted.
