Sergeant Gökhan Çelik (27), who killed his teacher’s wife Hatice Çelik (29) in Adana and seriously injured his brother-in-law Murat Akdöker (30), was arrested at the court where he was sent after police procedures. An argument broke out between Hatice Çelik, a teacher and mother of one, who was a passenger in an AAF 487 with plate number 70 driven by Murat Akdöker, and her husband, Specialist Sergeant Gökhan Çelik, against whom she had previously complained and filed a complaint. A restraining order was issued. When Gökhan Çelik, one of the couple whose relationship had reportedly been fuelled by jealousy, pulled out his service gun, Hatice Çelik got out of the car and tried to run away. However, Gökhan Çelik shot and killed his wife, who also worked in Mardin, in the back and also shot and killed his brother-in-law Murat Akdöker. The ricocheting bullets hit two passersby, Ismail Hakki Aca, 71, and Can Alagos, 57, as well as a police vehicle passing through the area.
Caught hiding on a rooftop
Police teams intervened in the case and warned the murder suspect to turn himself in. However, when Çelik refused to surrender, he was shot in the leg. Gökhan Çelik was wounded and went into a side street and got lost. Police teams sealed off the area and searched for the suspect throughout the day but failed to find any traces. In an operation carried out yesterday morning, a team from the Homicide Bureau arrested Çelik, who was found hiding on the roof of a building in the Yesiluva district. Meanwhile, the body of teacher Hatice Çelik was handed over to her family after an autopsy was performed at the Adana Forensic Institute. Çelik’s body was buried in Adana.

Gökhan Çelik’s injuries were minor and he was taken to the police station for questioning after treatment. In his statement, Çelik said he had an argument with his wife two weeks ago, that he had a restraining order against her and that he came to his family in Adana to tell them he wanted a divorce. He said he had a 10-year-old child. I was scared that if I divorced I would never see them again. I came to Adana to talk and see my child. My wife and I got together to talk for the last time. I was panicking in the car. We didn’t get along. I couldn’t see my child either. That’s why I said I don’t want to get divorced. An argument broke out between us. “The incident happened when the argument escalated in a short period of time,” he said.
Arrested
Gökhan Çelik was handed over to the court after proceedings at the police station and was arrested by the court. Sports trainer Murat Akdöker, who continues to receive treatment at the hospital, is reported to be in a life-threatening condition. It was announced that treatment will continue for Aça and Alagos, who sustained injuries from a ricochet bullet. (DHA)
