General arrested in connection with human smuggling at border

After the allegations surfaced, Major General Zeki Aktürk, Press and Public Relations Adviser at the Ministry of Defense (MSB), issued the following statement:
“We determined that this act was committed by a sub-sergeant and his security personnel in the official car of the brigade commander serving in Syria and reported it to the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Judicial and administrative investigations into this incident are ongoing.” A preliminary investigation is being carried out in secret by judicial authorities, and “the members’ contracts have been terminated and others have been referred to a higher disciplinary committee. The unit’s commander, a brigadier general, has been arrested.” In the case in question, the position of commander of the unit responsible for the border crossing has been changed.”
