WAPAKONETA — Social justice collaborative Fields of Justice is encouraging local gardeners to plant extra crops this year and donate them to local food pantries.
Plant a Row for the Hungry programs exist across the United States. Plant a Row is organized locally by Fields of Justice. The group includes representatives of individuals and diocesan families from the northern Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Their efforts benefit people of all faiths.
Four local pantries are participating in Plant a Row. We encourage you to call the food pantry before dropping off your donation.

Tips for donating to your local food pantry
• If you have a large amount of produce, please call ahead and let them know you will be coming to the food bank.
• Don’t eat rotten produce – If you can’t eat it, your pantry clients can’t eat it either.
• We provide only high-quality, freshly harvested produce to our food pantry.
• Handle fresh fruits and vegetables safely to minimize the risk of foodborne illness.
• Do not mix types of produce. Store each type in separate clean containers or bags.
• Remove as much dirt and grime as possible from the produce you plan to donate.
• Choose produce that is free of mold, rot, blemishes, and insects.
