Check out some tasty and fun food activities and new food trucks around the Grand Valley. There’s also a great new app that connects local charities with backyard gardening enthusiasts. What a great idea!

There’s a new food truck everywhere you look. Cakes Baby Bakery offers cupcakes, cookies, and cake pops. I had the chance to try their delicious cupcakes. I tried the “Local Honey and Pistachio” flavor. They’ll also be adding gluten-free options starting this weekend. You can often find them outside Tractor Supply at Mesa Mall and at Lowell School in downtown Grand Junction. You can find their schedule on Facebook and Instagram.
Base Camp Beer Works, located at 2575 US Highway 6 & 50, now has its own food truck called Street Eats, with menu items like Korean Wings, Colorado Cubano Sandwiches, and Vietnamese Banh Mi Sandwiches. We’ve also seen Dynamite Gal food trucks around town, and we’re hoping to try their Asian fusion truck soon. It’s really great to have such a variety of food around the valley.
Need a home for excess garden produce this summer? There’s a new app that connects home gardeners with food nonprofits. It’s called Fresh Food Connect. Tammy Gemaehlich of The Sentinel writes, “Gardeners can sign up for local nonprofits working to address food insecurity to pick up their excess home-grown produce or eggs right to their door, or schedule a time to drop off their produce at these organizations.” The app is available for free at freshfoodconnect.org or at various online app stores.
For more information, be sure to read Nathan Deal’s article in the May 31st Sentinel. We think this is a really great idea, and our talented backyard gardeners will be happy knowing that their harvest will help nourish others in the community.
