Bastrop plans first local food fair, action plan to support farmers
This November, farmers, chefs, educators and community members will come together for Bastrop County’s first local food fair.
The event is hosted by the Texas Local Food Center and partners with local organizations like Bastrop County Cares to connect residents with local food producers and bolster Bastrop’s shrinking agriculture industry.

The fair will be held at the Bastrop Convention Center on Nov. 10, according to the event page.
Attendees can visit dozens of booths hosted by local food producers and restaurants and enjoy children’s activities, interactive exhibits and fall-themed photo opportunities.

Bastrop Gateway rezoning request rejected by City Council
Following a denial recommendation by the city Planning and Zoning Commission, the Bastrop City Council voted 4-1 to deny the rezoning of 31 acres of land east of Buckeyes, known as Bastrop Gateway.
The issue was on the City Council agenda at its May 14 meeting and is back before the council on May 28.
At a public hearing prior to the vote, residents expressed concerns about increased traffic in the area and the need to protect the loblolly pines on the property.

“It would be completely irresponsible to add to what is already one of the worst traffic problems in the city,” said City Council Member Cynthia Meyer.

Bastrop County plans $4.5 million warehouse and office project to address limited space
Bastrop County is gearing up to build a new warehouse and office space to support the operations.

The county plans to begin construction on a new mixed-services facility south of Highway 21 later this year.
The estimated $4.5 million project, funded in part by the county’s federal American Rescue Plan Act funds, will create new office, warehouse and retail space for about 30 county employees. The project is being pursued to address the county’s currently limited space.
