French President Emmanuel Macron has asked Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, who submitted his resignation after his left-wing coalition came in first in the second round of the country’s early general elections, to stay on in his job “for the time being”.

According to information received by French media from the Elysee Palace, Prime Minister Attal visited the Elysee Palace today and submitted his resignation to President Macron.
After the meeting, Macron refused to resign and asked Attal to stay on in his role “for the time being” and for the sake of “national stability”.
Macron also expressed his gratitude to Attal for his work during the electoral process.
The second round of voting in France’s early general elections saw the Left League take first place, with Macron’s coalition coming in second.
The far-right, which came in first in the first round, dropped to third place.
