The historic nature of National Donut Day, which falls on Friday, June 7, is not flawed.
While there are many fictional food-related “holidays” (among them the recently celebrated “National Hamburger Day” and “National Wine Day”), National Donut Day has historical roots.
In 1938, the Salvation Army established the first Friday in June as “National Doughnut Day” to honor the Salvation Army’s Doughnut Lassies (women) who traveled to France during World War I to provide doughnuts and other snacks to soldiers.
These days, the day has become a great opportunity for doughnut lovers (or as Krispy Kreme and other doughnut sellers call them, doughnuts) to get freebies, deals, and special treats.
In addition to the deals and specials below, be sure to check out your local donut shops’ social media accounts, as they may have some National Donut Day deals.

Dunkin’ Donuts Day Sale, Donut-shaped Sponges Included
On National Donut Day, Friday, June 7, customers can get a free classic donut of their choice with the purchase of a beverage at Dunkin’ Donuts, while supplies last.
You can also order limited-edition doughnut-shaped Scrub Daddy and Scrub Mommy sponges (a clean collaboration with Dunkin’ Donuts) online for $9.98. Every order comes with one Scrub Daddy scrub sponge and one Scrub Mommy, which has a scrubbing surface on one side and a sponge on the other.
Crispy cream
On Friday, June 7, you can get a free doughnut with no purchase – special or “limited edition” doughnuts do not qualify for the promotion – and when you buy 12 in-store or at the drive-thru at participating Krispy Kreme locations, you’ll also get a dozen Original Glazed for $2.
Sheets
Friday through Sunday, June 7-9, get a free doughnut with the purchase of any Sheetz Bros coffee or instant coffee at any major Mid-Atlantic gas station, restaurant or convenience chain location. Find this offer in the OFFERZ tab in the Sheetz app. Limit one per person. Offer is available while supplies last.
Tim Hortons
Members of the Tims Rewards loyalty program can receive a free doughnut with the purchase of any drink, including current limited-time drinks like Cookie Butter Cold Brew and Cookie Butter Iced Capp.
Duck Donuts
Get a free cinnamon sugar doughnut on National Donut Day, Friday, June 7. No purchase necessary, available for in-store pickup only.
Other Donut Day Deals
Casey’s: Members of the Casey’s Rewards loyalty program can get a free doughnut, and from Friday, June 7 through June 16, Rewards members can get six doughnuts for $4.99. Options include the new Oreo Dirt Cake Doughnut, a chocolate cake doughnut topped with vanilla icing, crushed Oreo cookies and gummy worms. Dutch Bros. Coffee: The coffee chain will celebrate National Doughnut Day on June 7 with a special signature drink, the Jelly Doughnut Shake.
