BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU All-American and Pittsburgh Pirates rookie right-handed pitcher Paul Skenes was selected to the 2024 National League All-Star team on Sunday.
Skenes becomes the eighth former LSU Tiger player to be selected to the All-Star Game in the past nine seasons and the 14th overall.
The 2024 MLB All-Star Game will be held on Tuesday, July 16 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
Skenes dominated his debut major league season with the Pirates, going 5-0 with a 2.12 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 10 starts. He was selected first overall by Pittsburgh in the 2023 MLB Draft.
Skenes, a native of Lake Forest, California, led LSU to the 2023 College World Series title and was awarded the Dick Howser Award as the NCAA Division I player of the year.
Skenes, who also won the 2023 D1 Baseball Player of the Year and SEC Pitcher of the Year awards, posted a 13-2 record with a 1.69 ERA, 20 walks and an SEC-record 209 strikeouts in 122.2 innings. He ranked first in the nation in strikeouts (209), strikeouts per nine innings (15.33) and WHIP (0.75).

He finished second in the nation in ERA (1.69), third in strikeout-to-walk ratio (10.45) and fifth in hits allowed per nine innings (5.28). He was named the College World Series Most Valuable Player after going 1-0 with a 1.15 ERA in two starts, allowing seven hits and two runs with two walks and 21 strikeouts in 15.2 innings.
