Forest fires in 5 districts of Izmir; Selçuk fire spreads to Kusadasi

Air and ground intervention, including two aircraft and one helicopter, continues to battle the fire in the countryside of the Cesme-Germiyan district.
Meanwhile, a roadside fire broke out in Kusuclar district of Urla province. The highway between Izmir and Cesme was closed due to a fire that started in the grassland. Long queues of vehicles formed while efforts to combat the fire continued.
Cesme Mayor Lal Deniz also said the fire had been effective and called for help from citizens with water tankers to intervene.
Fire in Selcuk spreads to Kusadasi
A fire broke out in a pine forest in Selcuk district and has spread to forests in Aydın’s Kusadasi district, but firefighting efforts are underway from the air and ground.
At around 17:00, a fire broke out in a pine forest in Pamçak district, Selcuk region. People who saw smoke reported the situation to forestry teams. The fire was tamed by nine aircraft, including four planes and five helicopters belonging to the Izmir Regional Forestry Directorate, as well as ten water trucks, five water equipment and five bulldozers.
Meanwhile, the fire is spreading through forests in Kusadasi, Aydin province, and teams are continuing to work to extinguish it.
16 fires broke out, 5 areas continue to burn
A total of 16 fires broke out in Izmir today, 8 in forests and 8 in rural areas, 11 of which have been extinguished.
According to information from Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry officials, 16 fires broke out in the city.
Eleven planes, 27 helicopters, 171 water tankers and construction machines, and 972 personnel were involved in the blaze.
Eleven of the fires have been extinguished.
Efforts to extinguish the fires continue in the districts of Cesme, Menderes, Menemen, Selcuk and Turbali.
