Improper food storage and a cockroach infestation in the main kitchen area were the reasons the Warner Robins restaurant failed a routine health inspection in June.
American Philly & Wings, located at 819 Russell Parkway, received a “U” rating of 59 points for “inadequate compliance” during a routine inspection on June 5, according to information reported Friday on the state health department’s online portal.
The restaurant received a Food Safety Excellence score of 91 points, earning an “A” rating, during a mandatory follow-up inspection on June 19.
Environmental health inspectors assign a grade based on how many points are deducted from 100, with a score of 69 or below being considered a failing grade. If a restaurant fails a regular inspection, a follow-up inspection is required, usually within 10 days.
If a restaurant scores 69 or below, it receives a “U” (poor compliance).

During a routine inspection on June 5, American Philly & Wings was penalized for storing raw beef next to mushrooms in a walk-in refrigerator. To prevent food cross-contamination, raw, ready-to-eat animal products, such as beef and fish, must be stored separately from raw, ready-to-eat fruits and vegetables, according to the inspection report.
The report also found that the restaurant did not store shell eggs at the proper temperatures for food safety reasons.
According to the report, health inspectors also found several containers of raw chicken, raw beef and cooked vegetables in the walk-in refrigerator that were not date-marked, which food safety requires ensure food is not served more than seven days old.
Additionally, the report found that tomatoes were stored in the hand-washing sink in the front service area and bags of carrots and cabbage were stored on the floor of the walk-in refrigerator. Hand-washing sinks should only be used for hand-washing, and food should be stored at least six inches above the floor to protect it from contamination.
According to the report, inspectors “observed live and dead German cockroaches in traps in the main kitchen area and behind the countertops in the main kitchen, next to the refrigerator where Yum Yum sauce is stored.”
“Dead or trapped insects and other pests should be removed from control equipment and premises frequently enough to prevent accumulation, decay, and attraction of pests. Consult a reputable pest control company for pest control assistance,” the report states.
In previous routine inspections, the restaurant received 87 points on February 2, 2023, 97 points on August 9, 2023, 92 points on April 10, 2023 and 100 points on December 28, 2022.
An “A” is awarded for scores between 90 and 100 and denotes “excellence in food safety.”
