Food Network took viewers back in time last week by reposting a more than decade-old video showing longtime Sonoma County resident Guy Fieri and his family visiting their favorite Mexican restaurant in Santa Rosa.
The video, a snippet from Fieri’s hit show “Diners, Drive-ins & Dives,” shows the celebrity chef and his son, Hunter, getting into Fieri’s convertible to visit La Texanita on Sebastopol Road.
“La Texanita has become one of our favorites because of the stories, the people and the amazing food,” Fieri said in the video.
The segment first aired in August 2009 as part of the show’s “Global Grub” episode, which could explain why 27-year-old Hunter Fieri looks 12 years old.
Fieri chats with owner Alma Mendez, who demonstrates how to make handmade tortillas from scratch and carne asada tacos that Fieri describes as “very simple, but very delicious.”
“Honestly, nothing beats homemade tortillas,” Fieri said on the show.
Mendez shares how the restaurant started out as a taco truck before opening a brick-and-mortar location.
She then showed Fieri how to make the restaurant’s pozole.
“This is the real deal,” Fieri said of the Mexican stew.
In the segment, several regular customers, including Guy’s parents, also speak of their love for the restaurant.
The newly reposted video has been viewed more than 75,000 times.
“Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives” airs Fridays at 9 p.m. on Food Network and is available to stream on Max.
