ANN ARBOR, MI – Washtenaw County families who rely on free and reduced-price meals during the school year will no longer have to worry about their children going hungry this summer, thanks to the Food Gatherers free meal program.
The Summer Food Service Program will provide free meals to teens and children between June 17 and Aug. 16 at several locations.
“By offering a variety of meal and grocery options, we hope to help more children and families get the nutrition they need to have a fun, healthy summer,” said Leronica Roberts, Food Gatherers community food program manager. “We encourage families to take advantage of as many programs as they need, whatever works best for them.”
Families can receive the free meals in three ways:
Eat and Play – Children who visit Eat and Play locations around Washtenaw County must eat their meals on site and can enjoy games and activities.
Grab and Go – Families can pick up grab-and-go meals even if they don’t have children present, or pick up meals on someone else’s behalf.
Mini Grocery Pickup – Participants will receive a pre-packaged box of groceries to take home.
Participants are encouraged to choose the method that best suits their needs.
