The identity of a delivery driver who was shot and killed while delivering food to an Opalocka apartment over the weekend has been released and investigators are still trying to determine who shot him.
Police said Alejandro Linares, 40, was delivering food at the Mirage at Sailboat Cove apartment complex on Northwest 142nd Street when the shooting happened Saturday.
Police said Linares got out of his vehicle and was attacked and shot in what is believed to be an attempted armed robbery.
A neighbor told NBC6 that after hearing two gunshots, he went outside and saw a woman who had ordered food administering CPR to Linares, who had been shot in the chest.
He was eventually transported to a local hospital but did not survive.
“She ordered food and then she called to say a man was ‘downstairs’ and as she was walking from her car to the house he shot him,” said a neighbour who only gave her first name, Jesse. “She was trying to do CPR but it wasn’t working. Then the police and ambulance came and tried to shock him but the man was already dead.”
Police are continuing to investigate and he was seen entering and leaving the complex on Monday.
A person was detained for questioning, but no arrests have been made.
NBC6 is still investigating what company Linares worked for.
