Autopsy procedures are ongoing at the Izmir Forensic Medicine Institute for the five people killed in the explosion at the Surdanci store on Barış Mançı Street in Aylancilar district of Torbalı district. The families of the deceased are waiting for the procedures to be completed.
Orhan Cağlu, who had not yet recovered from the shock of the explosion, said his wife, Ruken Cağlu (31), lost her life. “My wife was a housewife and mother of two children. She had gone out to do some grocery shopping and buy some shoes. We live close to the scene and when we heard about the incident, we visited many hospitals to check on her condition.”
The two sisters who died in the explosion were on their way to the market.
Deniz Sarılmaz, waiting for the completion of autopsies on his relatives in front of the forensic morgue, said his wife Birgül Sarılmaz and sister-in-law Evin Aslan were killed in the explosion. Deniz Sarılmaz said his wife and sister-in-law would be buried in Torbali Subas. “They first went to have breakfast at their cousin’s house and then went shopping at the market. We live three to four kilometers from the site. Then we found out what had happened.”

“There was an explosion on their way to the market. They lost their lives by God’s will. May God have mercy on them and rest in peace,” said Shukur Aslan, who said his wife, Evin Aslan, was killed in the explosion. “They were on their way to the market and there was an explosion. The bodies of the brothers Birgül Sarılmaz and Evin Aslan, who lost their lives in the explosion at the Sıldun store in the Torbal district of Izmir, were handed over to their relatives after the autopsy. The bodies of the two brothers were taken to the Subas district of Torbal. The funeral of the two brothers was held at noon at the Subas Mosque. Izmir Governor Suleyman Elvan, AK Party Izmir Deputy Mahmut Atila Kaya, Torbal Mayor Ovunc Demir, Torbal Governor Erkan Oter, Izmir Gendarmerie Commander Brigadier General Osman Kılıç, and Disaster and Emergency Management (AFAD) President Oke Memış, who expressed the pain of the loss, were present at the funeral, along with their children, Living Ibrahim Sabık, Birgül Sarılmaz’s wife Deniz Sarılmaz, Evin Aslan’s husband Sukur Aslan, as well as other relatives and citizens of the family. After prayers, the bodies of the two brothers were taken to Subas Cemetery and buried side by side. It was revealed that Ebin Aslan, who lost her life, was four months pregnant. Her father, Ibrahim Sabuk, said in tears, “The incident happened on the way to the market. The girl was pregnant. She had returned home during her holidays. That’s when she told us.”
Habin, a high school student, was looking for shoes.
“My cousin Habin lived in Menderes. She was a high school student and loved reading. She came to Torbali to do some shopping at a relative’s house,” said Salih Ergin, a cousin of the deceased Habin Ergin (17). “She was looking for shoes for my cousin, who was to be buried in Menderes. We happened to be passing by when the explosion happened. We are very sad,” he said.

White veil covered
Meanwhile, the body of 24-year-old Dilek Bagu, who died in the explosion, was taken by her family after being processed at the morgue of the Izmir Institute of Forensic Medicine. The girl’s coffin was covered with a white veil. Dilek Bagu’s mother Adalet and father Murat Bagu expressed their condolences.
The funeral took place following midday prayers at the Hatchusman Ekhlas Mosque in Febji Çakmak district, after which Dilek Bagh’s body was taken to El-Mal Cemetery for burial.

Habin’s father hugs the coffin: Dear
The body of Habin Ergin (17), who lost his life in the explosion in Şurdanci, Torbal district, Izmir, was brought to Menderes. In the afternoon, Habin Ergin’s funeral was held at the Deyrimendere Neighborhood Cemetery. The funeral was attended by Ergin’s father Muttalip Ergin, his brothers Ercan Ergin, Özkan Ergin, Özkan Ergin and Tahir Ergin, as well as their relatives and citizens. Ergin’s coffin was covered with a white scarf. After the prayer, Habin Ergin was said goodbye to his final journey. During the ceremony, Muttalip Ergin could not hold back his tears and hugged his daughter’s coffin, calling her “my beloved.”
Meanwhile, the body of Ruken Caul, one of those killed in the explosion, was collected by his relatives after an autopsy at a forensic medicine laboratory and taken to his hometown of Mardin for burial.
