Forest fire spreads in Bodrum: 271 personnel continue to fight the fire
District Governor Chit told reporters that teams were using all available means to intervene in the fire.
“Efforts are being made to contain the fire, which has been contained for a long time. Our efforts continue to prevent the fire from spreading to the Punarbeleng and Etrim districts. We have confirmed that an aircraft from our forestry organization has submerged the fire,” Chitto said. “Once the cooling operations are completed, the gendarmerie will investigate the cause of the fire.”

Mayor Tamar Mandalinchi said the steep terrain in the area where the fire broke out would make it difficult to intervene from land.
“Firefighting efforts continue with more than 250 sorties. As the area is mountainous and the winds come from very variable directions, the fire has a tendency to get out of control and spread again. We continue to work aggressively to prevent the fire from spreading,” Mandalinchi said. “Even one square meter of forest area is lost.”
“One of the most severe fires of 2024.”
Moula State Governor Idriss Akbiyik also visited and inspected the area.
Governor Akbiyuk said the region’s rugged mountainous terrain made intervention from land difficult, saying:
“I wish you a great recovery of Bodrum and Muğla. I wish you a great recovery of our country. We are experiencing one of the most serious fires of 2024 here in Kumköy, where our entire forestry team is here under the leadership of the regional manager,” said the head of the regional manager, “with our AFAD units, our director, our urban municipality, the fire brigade, again Muskçi, and also with the city of Bodrum, the city of Milas and our citizens, we are fighting hard from the air and the land to control this forest fire. First of all, I would like to pay tribute to all the forestry personnel working here, as well as the personnel of our hardworking gendarmes and other agencies. But at the moment there is no danger to the settlement. At least, all our units and vehicles will be operating until the morning. They carried fire hoses for kilometers from the ground. There are no roads, so bulldozers are working to clear the roads. Meanwhile, the battle from the land continues. Currently, 18 aircraft are operating here. Water tankers and fire brigades, vehicles from the municipality and private sector are working on the road construction. About 420 personnel are working here, mainly from the Regional Forestry Directorate. We hope that it will continue until the morning and be contained. We pray for a great recovery for our country and for Muğla. May God protect you from the worst. Of course, our Gendarmerie will carry out all kinds of investigations. We hope that the cause of the fire will be identified. It is estimated that about 100 hectares of land have been damaged, although precise measurements have not yet been taken. Of course there are olive groves. “Part of it is an olive grove area, but test studies will be carried out later.”
