BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Louisiana Department of Health has formed a new partnership with Feeding Louisiana, a network of five food banks across the state, to provide meals to eligible seniors using food donated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
According to LDH, the network of five food banks includes the Central Louisiana Food Bank, the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans & Acadiana, the Northeast Louisiana Food Bank and the Northwest Louisiana Food Bank.

“Ensuring seniors have access to nutritious foods is our top priority, and we are committed to maintaining the high standards of service established by the program,” said Feeding Louisiana Executive Director Pat R. Van Berklio.
Officials said Feeding Louisiana will begin managing the Louisiana Supplementary Food Program starting Monday, July 1. Feeding Louisiana will take over from Catholic Charities, which has managed the program since 1986. Catholic Charities has decided to end the partnership, according to LDH.

“It is an honor and privilege to serve older adults throughout Louisiana,” said Sister Marjorie Hebert, president and CEO of Catholic Charities.
LDH said participants in the Louisiana Commodity Supplemental Food Program will receive phone and written communications.
