In Malatya, police officer Murat Baytuk killed his mother Gulhan Baytuk (59) and relatives Abdullah Cay (35) and Sheref Cay (60) and wounded two others with his service rifle during an altercation that broke out during a domestic dispute at Dad’s Market.
The incident occurred at midday in the Yavuz Selim district, when police officer Murat Baytuk had gone to his father’s market due to a domestic dispute, where an argument broke out between him and his mother and other relatives.
During the argument, Murat Baytek pulled out his service pistol and started firing randomly. Baytek’s mother, Gulhan Baytek (59), Abdullah Cay, Sheref Cay, Remziye Cay and Kadriye Cay were wounded by bullets. After being alerted by bystanders, many police and medical teams were called to the scene. The five injured were given first aid at the scene and taken to a hospital in the city by ambulance. Of the injured who were treated, Gulhan Baytek, Abdullah Cay and Sheref Cay could not be saved despite the efforts of doctors. After the incident, Murat Baytek surrendered to his colleagues.
While the police team was investigating the market, provincial police chief Arif Chankar reached the spot and received information.
The investigation into the incident continues.
