I’m not going to “jog your memory” with the question “Do you remember the hottest day ever recorded in North Dakota?”…
… I guess most of us weren’t even alive then. I’ll come back to this important question later, but first, things are looking up fast in Bismarck and Mandan, with temperatures gradually rising. We’ll be in the mid 90s this weekend. Hot and warm. I really hate how hot it gets in the evenings in North Dakota.
So I tried to suppress my aversion to heat.
On a brighter note, I was happy to read an article recently that said North Dakota is going to be one of the few states that won’t experience extreme heat this summer. Let’s just say I’m glad I don’t live in a city like Las Vegas or Phoenix where temperatures are soaring. My home state of California is also experiencing extreme heat. So back to the question: “Do you remember the hottest day in North Dakota’s history?”
Well, if you’re over 90…
…And if you lived in Steele, North Dakota at the time, you’ll never forget July 6, 1996. According to weather.gov, “The highest temperature ever recorded in North Dakota was 121°F, recorded in Steele on July 6, 1936. How cold can it get in North Dakota? The coldest temperature ever recorded in North Dakota was -60°F, recorded in Partial on February 15, 1936, the same year as the highest temperature ever recorded in North Dakota.”
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to hug the air conditioner.
