Residents interested in local history can take a trip back in time on a guided walking tour of historic Oyster Bay, where echoes of the past meet the footprints of the present. Raynham Hall Museum, located at 30 West Main Street in the hamlet of Oyster Bay, offers a two-hour, 1.5-mile historical walking tour of Oyster Bay.
“These fun, educational tours visit multiple historic sites, immersing participants in the town’s colonial roots and its role in America’s formative years,” said Oyster Bay Town Clerk Richard LaMarca. “From the spiritual Fort Hill Cemetery to the waterfront once bustling with oyster harvesters and pirates, these tours provide a rich tapestry of stories, including tales of notable figures such as George Washington’s spies, Robert Townsend and Theodore Roosevelt. Whether you’re a history buff or simply looking to enjoy a picturesque stroll, Oyster Bay’s History Walking Tours are a fun mix of education and leisure.”
The history walking tours will be held at Raynham Hall Museum, 30 West Main Street, Oyster Bay, on Saturdays July 20, September 14, October 5 and October 12 from 10am to 12pm. Tours cost $25 ($20 for museum members) and are provided by Raynham Hall. The Oyster Bay History Walking Tours were developed in collaboration with Margo Arceri, Culper Spy Ring historian and founder of the Three Village Historical Society’s Tri-Spy Tours.
