A written statement from the defence ministry said Dendias’ comments were “low level and full of lies and slander aimed at Turkish Cypriots and the heroic Turkish army.”
The statement strongly condemned the statements and noted that the Turkish military acted in accordance with its “guarantor” rights under international agreements to rescue the Turkish Cypriots who suffered from all kinds of repression by the Greek side, from genocide attempts to 1963-1974.
“The efforts to build a political career are not yielding results.”
The statement said:
“Thanks to the courage and presence of Turkish soldiers, no blood has been shed in Cyprus since 1974, the pressure of the Greek military junta on the Greek Cypriot people has been eliminated, the Greek military junta has collapsed and a return to democracy has been made possible,” he said. “Mr. Mehmedcik will be there tomorrow as he was yesterday and today. That will be a guarantee of peace and tranquility in Cyprus. We call on the Greek defense minister to stop trying to undermine the common position put forward by the leaders of the two countries. The countries that seek to advance Turkish-Greek relations with a constructive approach, he said, “efforts to turn this into a political career will not bring results.”
