The preliminary report of the expert committee prepared within the scope of the investigation into the fatal traffic accident in the Tarsus district of Mersin stated that the detained bus driver Ali Güler was “solely and primarily at fault.” The death toll has risen to 12 after a passenger bus veered into the oncoming lane on a highway in the Tarsus district of Mersin province and collided with a truck and two cars.

The accident occurred around 7 p.m. on May 26 on the Tarsus-Adana-Gaziantep (TAG) highway in the Yenice district.
The passenger bus, driven by Ali G., was travelling from Diyarbakir to Istanbul when the driver lost control of the steering wheel, damaging an iron fence and swerving into the oncoming traffic. The bus, which was travelling to Adana, collided with two cars and a truck, the driver of which is unknown.
Following reports from bystanders, numerous health, fire, gendarmerie and police teams from Mersin and Adana were dispatched to the scene of the accident. Eleven people were confirmed dead at the scene of the accident. The injured were removed from the vehicles by the health and fire brigades and taken to hospitals in ambulances.
