From Ballarat to Alice Springs, Adelaide to Perth, we’re pretty used to the road life here at Giants.
In 2023, we played in 12 different venues.
May I add that we won 11 of those games?
However, Collingwood played 17 games in their home state of Victoria.
I was shocked.
So, as the season opener approaches and Collingwood reluctantly heads out on the road, we thought we’d offer some advice on how to travel for this week’s big road trip.
From packing hacks to plane prep, arrival and boarding tips, we’ve learned some tips and tricks that will help you throughout your trip. These tips will make the whole travel process easier.
1. It’s never too early to get to the airport
The best time to arrive at the airport is at least 1 hour early for domestic travel and at least 2 hours early for international travel. We’re lucky we’re playing at the “Livestock Showground” and not Las Vegas, aren’t we?
2. Online check-in
There are two terms for online check-in.
3. Pack your noise canceling headphones
Pack or buy noise-cancelling headphones for your flight. But whether you’re listening to music, watching a movie, or streaming a podcast, be careful not to turn up the volume too high so you don’t miss any important announcements at the airport. .
4. Airport security
It is important to research what you can and cannot pack. Liquid restrictions may not apply to checked baggage, but you should be careful when packing your carry-on baggage. Liquids, powders, gels, and aerosols must be within 100mL/100g. Sure, we all know that knives, firearms, and chainsaws aren’t allowed on planes, but the prohibited items may surprise you. For example, if you plan on playing a little cricket in the backyard during your stay, you won’t be able to bring your favorite cricket bat on board. Premiership Cups are allowed, but carry-on is prohibited.
5. Bring an empty water bottle
Make sure to stay hydrated before, during and after your flight. However, as mentioned above, hydration beyond the limit cannot be carried out at the security checkpoint, so if you have an empty water bottle ready, you can fill it up after passing through security, so you can stay refreshed and hydrated. can.
6. Visit the Virgin Australia Lounge
The Virgin Australia Lounge is the perfect place to rest and relax before your flight. We’re experienced, and not just because Virgin Australia Lounges transport us all over the country. Use the lounge to grab a coffee, a complimentary meal, and decompress for yourself or your teammates before your flight.
7. Download your favorite movies and TV shows in advance
The trick is to download your favorite movies and TV shows before your trip. I recommend a mini TV series titled “Dentists”.
8. Buy snacks in advance
We had great coffee and food in the Virgin Australia lounge, but would you like to have a snack on the flight? Snacks can be quite expensive at the airport, so buy them in advance.
9. Additional legroom can be requested
Sorry Bobby, this is probably just advice for Darcy and Mason.
10. Please turn left when lining up.
It may seem strange, but research shows that most people are right-handed and tend to turn right first, so going left may help you move faster. You know we travel a lot?
11. Bring a portable charger
That speaks for itself.
12. Ask questions about upgrades
If you want to upgrade your ticket, go to the gate early and ask if you can upgrade your flight. Toby Green definitely does this every time we travel. I have never seen him not sitting in a first class seat.
13. Adding back support
Some airplane seats are more comfortable than others. So, if your seat back doesn’t have enough support, roll up a blanket or jumper/jacket and place it on the underside of your seat back. Adam Kingsley usually jokes about Sam Taylor supporting the backline, but that’s not recommended. It usually doesn’t work.
14. Do not recline your seat
It probably won’t shock you to know, but don’t.
15. Bring your own bag
Shockingly, carry-on literally means you have to bring your own bag on the plane.
