EL PASO, Texas – The El Paso Chihuahuas rallied from a 15-1 deficit in the fourth inning to score 16 runs and defeat the Las Vegas Aviators, 17-16, completing the largest comeback in franchise history. The Aviators had a stellar fourth inning, scoring 10 runs, the most runs El Paso has allowed in an inning since their game in Reno on August 30, 2023. In response, the Chihuahuas had a strong seventh inning, recording six hits and sending 14 batters to the plate while scoring nine runs, the most in an inning this season.
Las Vegas left fielder Tyler Nevin (son of former Padre Phil Nevin) hit a grand slam in the third inning. Right fielder Hoy Park hit both an inside-the-park home run and a three-run homer in the fourth inning, becoming the first player to hit two home runs in the same inning against El Paso. Both teams hit inside-the-park home runs in the series.
The Chihuahuas’ biggest comeback to date was on August 9, 2019, against Round Rock, where they overcame a nine-point deficit. The game saw the Chihuahuas score a total of 33 points, a new season high. Nate Mondeaux led the team with 3 hits in 5 at-bats and scored a career-high six runs. The game was the Chihuahuas’ longest game of the season. Both teams had their catchers ejected in the eighth inning due to bench-clearing incidents.
