LA PLATA, MD – At the Charles County Commissioners meeting on March 5, 2024, Vice Chairman Ralph Patterson presented a request to officially rename “Black History Month” to “African American Heritage Month.” Recognizing the importance of this request, Charles County Government is facilitating Community Conversation Group meetings.
As part of our commitment to equity, Charles County Government is committed to building relationships with the community that foster inclusive dialogue, collaboration, and opportunities for diverse participation regarding decisions that affect the people we serve. The community is invited to participate in scheduled Community Conversation Groups. During group discussions, the community will have the opportunity to provide feedback on proposed changes. Following the final Community Dialogue meeting, an online public survey will be launched to obtain additional feedback from the community. At the end of this effort, Charles County Government staff will present the findings to the Board of County Commissioners.
