According to a new survey from The Cookie Rookie, the most popular food in California is the bagel. Yes, the bagel.
Bagels have become hugely popular in California, with over 1 million searches on Google last year. Website “The Cookie Rookie” searched through data from Instagram, TikTok and Google to reveal the most popular state dishes in the U.S. Bagels are the most popular state dish across the U.S.

Bagels are the most searched state dish in 23 states, bagels receive twice as many Google searches as any other popular dish in the country, they earned the top spot with a score of 9.78 out of 10, and they’re in the top 5 for Instagram and TikTok posts.
It may come as a surprise to some that bagels are Californians’ new favorite food, but they’re just one of many delicious foods we enjoy in California’s diverse cuisine. So grab a bagel this weekend and enjoy it with fellow bagel lovers across the country.
