CALIFORNIA WIDE — A new data study reveals the most and least popular fast food chains in the state.
The study was conducted by a QR code generator and is based on TripAdvisor reviews of 250 fast food restaurants in California. Reviews were analyzed to determine the most and least popular restaurants in the state. Fast food restaurants with multiple locations were looked at and weighted to create an overall average.

Here are the top-rated fast food chains in California, based on TripAdvisor reviews:
1. Chick-fil-A has been named the most popular fast food chain in California with an average rating of 4.21 stars. The chain was founded in 1961 and to this day serves the best chicken sandwiches and delicious chicken nuggets. Chick-fil-A prides itself on its additive-free chicken and wholesome ingredients. The franchise has over 3,000 restaurants in the United States and is continuing to expand.
2. Dairy Queen comes in at number two with an average rating of 4.13 stars. Dairy Queen is a popular fast food restaurant where you can grab a quick dessert or enjoy a full meal at the drive-thru. Founded in 1940, the chain is best known for its iconic Blizzards, ice cream, and delicious burgers.
3. Five Guys is ranked #3 with an average rating of 3.99 stars. Five Guys is an American fast food chain that specializes in burgers, hot dogs, and fries. Founded in 1986 in Alexandria, Virginia, the chain has restaurants across the world.
4. Starbucks is ranked 4th with an average rating of 3.99 stars. Starbucks is a global coffee house chain and coffee company founded in Seattle, Washington in 1971. The chain is committed to ethically sourcing and roasting the world’s highest quality Arabic coffee beans. The food menu is small but substantial and constantly expanding, with one of the most recent additions being the sourdough grilled cheese sandwich.
5. Jimmy John’s received a rating of 3.91 out of 5 stars and was ranked as the 5th most popular fast food restaurant. This American sandwich chain originated in Charleston, Illinois. The menu started with four sandwiches – smoked ham and provolone, hand-carved turkey, house-made tuna salad, and capocollo and salami – and now offers over 18 different sandwiches.
An analysis of the lowest-ranked fast food chains in California, based on TripAdvisor, revealed the following findings:
1. Burger King was rated the worst fast food chain with an average rating of 3.09 stars. Serving charbroiled burgers in Jacksonville, Florida since 1953, Burger King is now the second largest burger chain in the United States after McDonald’s, with over 14,000 restaurants in 100 countries.
2. KFC comes in second with an average rating of 3.10 stars. KFC is a global fast food chain that specializes in Southern-style fried chicken. It first opened in Salt Lake City in 1952. There are 4,285 KFC restaurants in the United States, distributed across all 50 states.
3. Sonic Drive-In came in third with an average rating of 3.13. Though Sonic Drive-In is known for its wide selection of drinks, it started out as a root beer stand in 1959. The chain serves a variety of American classics, including burgers, hot dogs, grilled cheese, and delicious ice cream.
4. McDonald’s was ranked 4th with an average rating of 3.23 stars. McDonald’s is the world’s largest fast food restaurant chain, with over 40,000 locations worldwide. Founded in San Bernardino in 1940, McDonald’s is best known for its hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and fries, but its menu also includes other items such as salads, fish, chicken, and salads.
5. Little Caesars is the fifth least popular fast food chain in California with an average rating of 3.43 stars. Little Caesars is an American multinational pizza restaurant chain founded in 1959. Little Caesars is the third largest pizza chain in the United States by total sales, after Pizza Hut and Domino’s.
