A fire of unknown cause broke out in forest, makis and grassland areas of Delikliköy in Alacati district, Çeşme district, Izmir. Upon notification, two aircraft, four helicopters, 16 water tankers, three water vehicles, three bulldozers and ground crews belonging to the Izmir Regional Forestry Directorate were dispatched to the area.
People were evacuated from some homes.
In areas where the fire spread quickly due to winds, residents of some homes were evacuated as a precautionary measure, and a woman and her two children who were in the area close to the fire were removed from the area by military police.
Three people were killed in the blaze
The flames of a forest fire in the Cesme district of Izmir have spread to Derkilkoy. Three people have been killed in the blaze. Teams continue to intervene in the fire from the air and land.
Fire in Menderes district
At around 16:00, a forest fire broke out in a forest in the Oranas district of Menderes district in Izmir. After receiving the report, forestry teams intervened in the fire within six minutes. Teams from the Izmir Regional Forestry Directorate are continuing to fight the fire using two helicopters, seven sprinklers, three water equipment and one bulldozer. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Manisa Soma forest fire
The fire broke out in a forest area in the Soma and Deniş district of Manisa. Upon notification, one plane, two helicopters, ten water tankers, five water trucks and two bulldozers belonging to the Izmir Regional Forestry Directorate were dispatched to the area.
The neighborhood was evacuated
The Tekeli Ishklar district was evacuated as a precautionary measure as the fire was closing in. Soma County Governor Fatih Akkaya, who toured the area, told reporters that the fire, which broke out at midday, had been almost contained but had reignited due to very strong winds.
Explaining that the area in Tekeli Ishklal district has been cleared of residents and animals, Akkaya provided the following information:
“As of now, no life-threatening danger is expected. No roofs or houses are on fire in the village. All teams are intervening to prevent it from spreading to the village. We hope they will be successful. However, the winds are blowing strongly from all sides and we want to prevent the fire before it causes any damage to the village.”
Canakkale forest fires
A forest fire broke out near the village of Saraicuk near the Bayramici Dam in the Bayramici district of Çanakkale. Upon being notified, a team from the Çanakkale Regional Forestry Directorate was dispatched to the area.
Teams launched air and ground intervention to bring the fire under control.
