The Cabinet meeting chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan concluded. President Erdogan’s statement read as follows: “I pay tribute to the people who follow us in different countries of the world, including 81 states. I pray for God’s mercy for the two pilots who were martyred this morning on our plane that crashed during training.
We have held ourselves accountable to the people by voting 18 times.
Dear citizens, we have completed the first year of our government, which was formed following the May 14-28 elections. I would like to sincerely thank each and every one of our 85 million citizens for the trust they have placed in us, our party, and our alliance.
The first condition of democracy is to be accountable to the people. We have been accountable to the people at the polling booth 18 times and have been acquitted all the times. We have been and will continue to be accountable in Parliament every year during the budget debate. We have been directly accountable to the nation in conferences attended in all 81 states. We are the government of all 85 million people. We are the government of the workers as well as the employers. We are the government of the civil servants, the retirees and the farmers. We are the government of the people who live in the East as well as the people who live in the West. We are the government of not only the people who vote for us but also the people who use their preferences in various ways.
We do not pay attention to catastrophists, nor do we listen to merchants of discord. We strive to elevate Turkey even higher. As a government, the only criterion we refer to is our services and work. It is clear what we have brought to Turkey. Our nation understands very clearly what we are doing. What is important to us is the reputation of our nation.

We have taken many historic steps to improve working life. We have adhered to the principle of not exposing employees, civil servants and wages to inflation. As promised, we have increased the salaries of civil servants to 33,000 liras as of January 2024.

On February 6, 2023, we as a nation and experienced one of the greatest natural disasters in human history. A total of 850,000 independent sections were rendered unusable. 53,614 of our citizens lost their lives under collapsed buildings. Istanbul urgently needs to replace 600,000 homes
Of Istanbul’s total 7.5 million independent sections, 600,000 sections need to be urgently transformed. The collapsed building on Sunday was a renewed reminder of how important urban transformation is for Istanbul. The risks will increase with Istanbul’s delayed action. Making our city earthquake-proof is a national duty for everyone, regardless of political party. We see that this issue is not well understood. We hope that local management will respond as soon as possible. We have launched the Resilient City project. We will increase the percentage of zero waste to 35% in 2023, which has become a global environmental movement. Our goal is 60% in 2035.
Akuyu construction is 90 percent complete
Turkey’s offshore projects will facilitate our citizens’ access to the sea and improve the quality of life on the coast. Energy is also an area where we have really made history in recent years. We continued for one year the free natural gas support that we started to share the joy of Black Sea gas with our citizens. The Fatih drilling ship started drilling for a new discovery in the Sakarya gas field. We broke a record by increasing daily oil production in Gabar to more than 43,380 barrels. Our activities continue in other parts of the region, especially in Hakkari and Syrt. We will see better results.
Construction of the first reactor at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant has been completed to 90 percent and mechanical tests inside the reactor have begun. We have started exporting BOTAŞ gas to Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania. For the first time, we will export to two European countries that do not share a border. On Friday, we will present the Türkiye Century Education Model. We will take this opportunity to tell you more about our educational activities.
All I want to point out today is that Turkiye is taking firm steps towards the goals he set in the Medium-Term Plan and the 12th Development Plan. Last year, the Central Bank’s total reserves increased by about $44 billion, reaching more than $142 billion. We will ensure that we achieve single-digit inflation without compromising production, employment, exports and quality growth. We are well aware that this is a process that requires patience, willpower and determination. As a government, we have no doubt that we will achieve our goals.
