The team shot 47.6 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from three-point range.
After the game, Mavs star Luka Doncic spoke about Boston’s stellar shooting.
Doncic: “I think they’re the best 3-point shooting team in the NBA, so it’s really tough to take that away from them, especially when you have five guys that can shoot.”
Jaylen Brown led Boston with 22 points, six rebounds, two assists, three steals and three blocks on 7-of-12 field goal shooting and 2-of-6 3-pointers in 37 minutes of playing time.
The Celtics were the number one seed in the Eastern Conference and had defeated the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers and Indiana Pacers in the first three rounds of the playoffs.
Although they have appeared in the NBA Finals twice in the past three seasons, the team has not won an NBA championship since 2008.
Game 2 of the series will be played Sunday night (in Boston).
The teams then travel to Dallas for Games 3 and 4.
